Installing Intel Packet Protect

To install Intel Packet Protect

  1. Insert the Intel CD into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. Open the PktPt folder.

  3. Open the NT4 folder or the Win98 folder, depending on your operating system.

  4. Double-click setup.exe.

  5. Follow the prompts in the setup program.

To Update Intel Packet Protect

Intel Packet Protect is tightly integrated with other Intel networking software components. If you are upgrading Intel Packet Protect from a previous version, you must perform the following steps in order: 

  1. Uninstall Entrust* Certificate Support (if used previously).
    If you are not using certificates, go on to the next step.
    For instructions, see "Uninstalling Certificates" in this user guide.

  2. Remove the previous version of Intel Packet Protect.
    For instructions, see "Uninstalling Intel Packet Protect" in this user guide.

  3. Update the base Intel network driver
    For instructions, see "Installing Network Drivers" in the Intel PRO/100 Adapter User Guide. 
    NOTE: Make sure you restart your system after updating the base driver.

  4. Update the Intel PROSet II control panel utility. (Not necessary in Windows NT*)
    NOTE: This step also updates the Intel Advanced Network Services (ANS) component.
    For instructions, see "Run the Setup Utility" in the Intel PRO/100 Adapter User Guide. 
    NOTE: When you are given the option to restart your system, select "Yes".

  5. Install New Intel Packet Protect
    For instructions, see the steps listed at the top of this page.

  6. Install New Entrust* Certificate Support (if used previously).
    If you are not using certificates, go on to the next step.
    For information and instructions, see "Certificates" in this user guide.

  7. Re-Define your IP security policy
    For instructions, see "Advanced System Policy Settings" in this user guide.
