Quick Start Guide

The Quick Start Guide is intended for those already familiar with FileMaker Pro solutions and is intended to get you up and running quickly. It is still recommended that you read the Setup and Administration page, the Security Notes page, and the User Help page.

Setting Up Standalone Version

Double Click KevPT. Enter the username "admin" and password "admin". Click Prefs to add and edit Staff Members, set Problem and Asset Types, etc.

Setting Up FileMaker Pro to serve the LAN/Web Version

Any steps marked with a * below are only required if you will be serving KevPT to web clients.

  1. *Put KevPTWeb folder in the "Web" folder in the FileMaker Pro folder.
  2. *Configure the Web companion to not use Instant Web Publishing.
  3. *Open the Web Security databases that came with KevPT. Use these instead of FileMaker's Web Security databases. If you use this copy of FileMaker to serve other databases on the web, import the records from those databases into the ones that came with KevPT.
  4. Double-click the KevPT.fp5 file. For web serving only (no LAN or administrative access) use the "webserver" password. Otherwise, if also serving LAN clients or administrative access (e.g. to add staff members) use the "user" password.
  5. To modify KevPT, use the master password given when you registered.
  6. To add staff members, Login with the username "admin" and the password "admin". Click Prefs to add and edit Staff Members, set Problem and Asset Types, etc.
  7. * Click Enable Web Login to set the security in the Web Security databases. Click Disable Web Login to disallow users to login via web

Using FileMaker Pro Server

In FileMaker Pro Server, open all of the .fp5 files included with KevPT except the KevPT.fp5 file. See the Clients section below to allow your clients to easily open KevPT without having to navigate the network to find the server.

Clients

Web clients use http://your.server.address/KevPTWeb/default.htm. Proceed to log in with your Staff Member username and password.

FileMaker Pro clients should copy the KevPT.fp5 file to their machine. Use the default "user" password. When asked, find the settings.fp5 file on the Server using Open Host. You should only need to do this once. KevPT should find the files automatically after that. To start KevPT, the user simple double-clicks the KevPT.fp5 file.
